National Capital Chapter

April 2019 President’s Message by Stacy Hope

Dear Colleagues,

Chapter members often ask me, “How can I take maximum advantage of my PRSA membership?” The easy answer? Get involved! As one former chapter president often notes, PRSA-NCC membership is like a gym. You can’t just pay a monthly gym membership fee and expect the muscles to grow or the pounds to melt away if you don’t show up. You get out of it what you put into it, and hopefully have a lot of fun along the way.

With that in mind, I strongly encourage you to take advantage of the countless opportunities to volunteer with PRSA-NCC. Do you like planning big events or learning about best practices in PR? Join our Thoth Awards committee — we’re rolling out some exciting changes this year and would love to have you be a part of it! Would you like to get to know some of our newer professionals? We are looking for mentors to offer guidance on management, job searches, career transitions, professional development, and more. In 2019, we’re also expanding and enhancing our sponsorship program, which means that our sponsorship committee is growing and could use your help.

No experience? No problem! Committees are a great opportunity to try something new. And many of our committees offer virtual volunteer opportunities, so even if you live far from downtown D.C. or have a hectic work schedule, you can participate on your own schedule.

If you are interested in volunteering with PRSA-NCC, I encourage you reach out directly to committee leadership and see what opportunities might be available. Alternatively, please contact me or our membership chairs Kristin Gregory and Jenna Gregory directly; we can talk to you about the breadth of options and put you in touch with the opportunity that’s right for you.

Warmest regards,

Stacy Hope
