PRSA NCC Launches Early Career Fellowship for Professionals of Color
Applications Open through April 30
(FALLS CHURCH, VA – Mar. 1) – The Public Relations Society of America National Capital Chapter (PRSA NCC) today announced the launch of their Early Career Fellowship for Professionals of Color. Applications will be accepted online at https://prsancc.org/2022-fellowship/ through April 30.
The program is sponsored by global marketing, communications and digital transformation agency ICF Next, part of global consulting services provider ICF.
PRSA NCC will select four fellows from the pool of applicants to participate from July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2023. Fellows will receive the following benefits:
- Payment of PRSA National and PRSA NCC chapter dues for one year
- A $500 stipend for PRSA NCC events
- A one-year mentorship with a PRSA NCC member
- The offer of a 3-month paid summer internship in 2022 with ICF/ICF Next
- Opportunities to build and grow a professional PR and communications network
- Opportunities to serve as a role model for current and future professionals
“I am excited to see this combined effort come together as we demonstrate ICF Next’s and PRSA NCC’s commitment to increase diversity in the field,” said Vickie Gogo, APR, PRSA NCC and senior partner, multicultural communications, ICF Next. “I’ve worked in PR for 20 years and while we have made some headway in changing the complexion of the industry, it has not been enough. This fellowship provides diverse young professionals the opportunity to learn, grow and gain early traction in the field, and inspires us to continue to make positive change. We are proud to help lead the way.”
The program seeks to provide support to people of color who are in the early stages of their public relations/communications career. Eligibility requirements include:
- Self-identification as an African American/Black, Asian, Hispanic/Latino(a)/Latinx, American Indian, Alaska Native, Pacific Islander and/or mixed race
- Studying and/or practicing in the PR/communications professions
- A 2022 graduate or a recent graduate who is within three years of entering their professional career
- Intention to seek employment or reside in the greater Washington, DC, metropolitan region (including Maryland and Northern Virginia) during the 12 months of the program
“We aspire for this fellowship program to create a more supportive environment for new professionals of color to grow and expand their networks for long-term success through PRSA NCC membership, mentorship and professional development and internship learning opportunities,” said Robert Krueger, president, PRSA NCC, executive communications manager for Gensler and executive director of The Communications Board.
