National Capital Chapter

January 2024 President’s Message

Fellow PRSA National Capital Chapter Members,

Happy New Year! I’m humbled and excited to serve as President of the PRSA National Capital Chapter (NCC) in 2024.

Each year, our NCC Presidents work with Chapter Officers, Board Members, Committee Chairs, and other volunteers to bring value to your chapter membership. We organize professional development and networking events, identify chapter sponsors, partner with local university PRSSA chapters, support members pursuing their Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) credentials, strive to uphold high ethics standards, and espouse a culture of diversity and inclusion in all that we do.

My goal is to continue the great work of our past Chapter Presidents to bring value to your membership, and one way I hope to do that is by listening to your input and feedback about how to make our chapter better. In the fall, we conducted a survey to gather feedback on what you want from your membership, and I plan to use that information to help guide our plans and activities this year.

Survey feedback indicates members want:

  • To be more informed about member benefits
  • To get chapter info from the newsletter and direct email
  • More networking opportunities/events
  • More volume/variety of professional development
  • More events for senior executives
  • More in person events
  • More events in VA and MD
  • Lower cost to attend events
  • To learn more about ways to volunteer

I want you to know that I heard your feedback and will work hard this year to bring these things to you. The first thing on this list I’ve addressed is to bring back the Monthly NCC Newsletter—starting now! The newsletter will come out on the third Thursday of every month so keep an eye on your email inbox each month for the latest insights, updates and happening in our chapter.

If you didn’t have a chance to participate in the survey, I still welcome your feedback and ideas for the chapter, just send them via email to As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out directly to me or any other chapter leader if you have any questions, concerns, or ideas for how we can improve as a chapter.

I am so thankful for all of you and value your unique contributions and perspectives as a PR professional to the NCC. Our Chapter’s rich and diverse membership reflects the varied PR career fields in our local DC, MD, and VA area: with representation across nonprofit, government, military, agency, academia, corporate, and private sectors, along with myriad job roles and niche focus areas, there are so many opportunities through NCC membership for networking and professional development. I hope you’ll strive to be an active member of our chapter this year, to grow in your career as well as to give back to our PR community! Also, this year is especially exciting because it marks our chapter’s 75th anniversary, so you may notice we’ll be using a special logo and reflecting on some of our historical memories during the year.

Along with the Board of Directors, I’m proud to serve PRSA NCC and our members, and I look forward to connecting with many of you at events throughout the year.
