Membership Spotlight: Meghan Amoroso

About you, where you work. My name is Meghan Amoroso and I serve as the Senior Director of External Affairs at World Food Program USA. In my role, I work with internal and external partners to build communications initiatives that advance key brand, policy, and fundraising goals in support of the U.N. World Food Programme, the world’s largest humanitarian organization. I manage our incredible media/PR and events, and celebrity, influencer, and entertainment teams. I have been fortunate to build my career in the D.C. area working previously at March of Dimes and the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health, in addition to a local PR agency where I served as a client contact for Walmart, Medtronic, American Osteopathic Association, The Tour for Diversity in Medicine, among others.

How long have you been a PRSA member? I initially joined PRSA in 2009, serving on past Thoth Award committees.

Any tips or advice for new members? Join a committee and participate as much as you can! Getting to know your fellow PRSA members and learning with and from them is how you can make the most out of your membership.

Favorite place you’ve traveled? In 2023, I was fortunate to travel to Zambia to film a digital series that showcased the incredible work of our WFP colleagues and partners on the ground. They work day-to-day alongside the local government and community members (small-holder farmers, school children and parents, market aggregators, and more) to build food security and climate resilience through programs like school-based hydroponic gardens. I met inspiring women like Emeldah and Priscilla who use crop diversification techniques to boost their harvest and reduce food loss. It’s an experience I will never forget.

Fun Fact I earned a dual major in media arts and design (with a concentration in journalism) and contemporary dance at James Madison University, before heading to grad school in Boston. Both of those degrees built my enthusiasm and a strong foundation for storytelling that I use in my day-to-day work. In particular, through dance performance and choreographing pieces, I learned about the importance of team building, trusting your instincts, stepping outside your comfort zone, and trial and error.

How other members can connect with you (e.g., LinkedIn link, PRSA Profile, etc.) LinkedIn is the best way (linkedin.com/in/meghanamoroso).
