Washington’s Best Public Relations & Public Affairs Campaigns Honored at 2019 PRSA-NCC Thoth Awards

Washington, D.C. – Oct. 1, 2019 – More than 175 industry professionals attended the National Capital Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America‘s 2019 Thoth Awards luncheon at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. The event honored the industry’s top programs, products and campaigns in the nation’s capital region.

The American Farm Bureau Federation and National Farmers Union received the Best in Show award for their entry Farm Town Strong: Overcoming the Rural Opioid Epidemic.

The campaign promoted life-saving prevention and treatment information, reducing stigma, and influencing public opinion about opioid addiction in rural America.

“Our 2019 Thoth Award winners demonstrate an inspiring level of talent, creativity, and professional leadership, and it was an honor to recognize their achievements,” said PRSA-NCC President Stacy Hope. “It also was our pleasure to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the National Capital Public Relations Hall of Fame, which recognizes senior communicators who demonstrate distinguished accomplishments, visionary leadership, and a commitment to inspiring the next generation of public relations professionals.”

The American Farm Bureau Federation and National Farmers Union also won the research award, which goes to the campaign that has demonstrated excellence in the use of research in developing an informed PR strategy and then evaluating the effectiveness of that strategy. The IPR Research Award is a partnership between PRSA-NCC and the Institute for Public Relations.

Danny Selnick was inducted into the National Capital Public Relations Hall of Fame. Selnick is a nationally recognized senior communications counselor, who built a successful career at two international commercial news wire services, and is best known as an industry connector. Throughout his career, he has been dedicated to strategic marketing and communications efforts on behalf of his clients, including associations, nonprofits, advocacy groups, foundations, corporations, and government and political agencies.

The PRSA-NCC awards are named after Thoth (pronounced “tot”), an Egyptian god of wisdom who was a mediator and scribe and credited as the inventor of communications and writing. In the spirit of Thoth, PRSA-NCC honors area PR professionals for their exceptional and innovative campaigns and contributions to the profession.
